For centuries, Thabes was in a state of dereliction after it was abandoned in favor of other locations in the Sunrise system, as it was once deemed a white elephant. The resulting hulk couldn't be sold until, one day, a well-known pirate hunter purchased it under the pledge of turning the once-derelict city into a fortress capable of housing, in the long term, a reeducation camp, as well as tourist facilities. And, of course, it had to have the capability of destroying pirate fleets in a siege.

As for now, though, the fledgling city houses the only cargo dispatcher (Ashar) in the Sunrise system.
