ISN - Gal-Fed announces initial results

Gal-Fed today held yet another press conference at Port Ross to discuss the ill-fated expedition of the GFS Venture. There have been a number of these such conferences in recent days, this reporter has elected to spare you the pain of reading about them. Finally today I found myself in one with some information worth disseminating.

Gal-Fed scientists are finally ready to release some of the information they were able to glean from the expedition's surviving drones. A picture of this new threat is finally starting to emerge.

The first revelation was not about what the drones observed, but which ones survived. As I mentioned in a previous story, drones were prepared with each type of shielding in order that they might stand up to a variety of potential spacial distortions and phenomena. The interesting thing is, over 90% of the surviving drones had phased shielding, and were for the most part unscratched.

Further study proved almost conclusive - alien weapons seem to cut straight through both absorption and reflective types of shielding like they're not even there. Captain (formerly Admiral) Stark seized on this information during the conference.

"The GFS Venture was too large a ship to equip Phased shielding - the instability caused by extending the field so far makes it impossible to protect such a large area. It is for this reason that the aliens were able to force us into a retreat. But our scientists are working frantically on phased shielding adjustments, and we will be back to turn the tides of war!"

Interestingly this is the first time that Gal-Fed officials have used the word 'alien' - but it seems it will not be the last.

Also coming out of the conference was information that the aliens seem to be split into three castes - Warriors, Clerics and Scientists.

Markings on their ships and also slight differences in language separate these, and Gal-Fed has released the details to the public so that all potential fighters may recognise the differences.

In terms of actually decoding the language, not a lot of progress has been made. More contact with the aliens is needed, and especially useful would be any physical pieces like books or writings of any kind. "Or just the sides of their ships!" interjected Captain Stark at this point, shortly before being escorted away from the podium.
I'll keep attending the briefings (so you don't have to) and continue to report back when ever something of interest comes up.
