Arc-Light Projects

Post by Historical Archives »

Six hundred years ago Arc-Light Projects (ALP) began the development of a “Stellar Drive”. The results are promising but it had heavy power requirements and some instability in the magnetic shielding slowed down development.

This side tracked Arc-Light into studies of power generation and they made amazing strides in small power plants with high yields.

The release of the Tesla Reactor reserved for large class military vessels and those with the need for large amounts of surplus energy was a boon to the military and Arc-Light Projects.

The Tesla was designed to have a dual purpose in life not only giving far more energy than its normal Reactor based counterparts, but also doing so in a much smaller volume of space. As most of you will be aware Reactors tend to take up half the engineering bay of any ship, well the Tesla was a mere 4 cubic units meaning that along with the modification kit that comes with each Tesla you can gain valuable space.

It took almost a hundred years before the first prototype Stellar Drive was ready for testing. A flight from the Earth to the moon was completed in two hours, setting a new record with an average speed of 54 km/s.

A second test took place a week later, completing a flight from Earth to Mars 55,000,000 miles in six days with an average speed of 106 km/s.

Court battles ensued over copyright issues and the release of the Stellar Drive was delayed for almost six years.

Finally the copyright was upheld and sales of the Stellar Drive could begin.

Ashar Shipping purchased engines and began weekly shipping runs between Earth and Mars. Deep Star Creations designed and developed long range scientific scout ships using Arc=Light Projects engines. Their first target was exploration of the Kuiper Belt.

Arc-Light Projects, Stellar Division turned its attention to interstellar travel and made a breakthrough in their Stellar Engine design. Moving to a Tachyon Field Generator and increasing their ability to boost speeds by up to 50%. New Engines begin a new era of discovery and exploration.

They continued to work on the “jump” from normal space to “hyper” space to create faster than light travel but the current knowledge of physics prevented them from achieving success.

Private ship ownership became commonplace and Gleso Industries began to hire private pilots to “rush” samples to Earth for analysis and Ashar contracted private ships to haul parcels.

With their theoretic work with magnetic containment Arc-Light Projects expanded into other fields, as their theoretic work continues on the development of advanced thrust boosters, scanners, reactors and cargo containment.

Captains today benefit from Arc-Light’s early development in those areas

While based on Earth, Arc-LIght Projects opened satellite offices in the Sphere. They recognized there would be a huge need for privately piloted ships and wanted to be sure they were poised on the front line to provide the engines and other accessories a Captain might need.

Arc-Light Projects established a foothold in the Sphere.
