After what seems like an eternity to this reporter, Gal-Fed have finally made official comment on the incidents surrounding the massive damage inflicted upon their recently launched flagship the GFS Venture. Of course ISN also have the unofficial story for you - and it isn't pretty!

Gal-Fed made a short statement, but did not take questions this afternoon in an attempt to control the speculation and rumour which has been rife since the unexpectedly early return of a battered and bruised GFS Venture. The captain of the Venture, Admiral Starch, made the official statement approximately half an hour ago.

According to Gal-Fed, the initial jump was a success - while the wormhole did provide some minor hull damage, the shields remained intact. However the wormhole did create a time dilation localised around the juggernaut, possibly linked to its size, and as such its short journey seemed like a number of days to the crew on board.
Upon reaching the other side Admiral Starch was greeted by a vast empty area of space - or so it was first thought. There was however indecipherable communications chatter. Initial drones were launched and left in the vicinity of the wormhole entrance to gather information necessary for its future stabilisation and the Venture headed off into the unknown - which Gal-Fed are now referring to as The Expanse.

Starch soon realised he and his crew were not alone - having come across a new jump gate, they were testing to see it was viable when without warning ships began to pour through. Starch did not recognise the make or model, they had no clear faction markings and their communications chatter was unintelligible, therefore under Section 7A of the Gal-Fed charter they were determined to be enemy combatants. Starch opened fire with all he had.
An epic battle ensued against ships and weapons never seen before.

While victory seemed certain, Starch was informed by his science staff that continuing the battle could lead to the loss of valuable data and so he made a tactical retreat back from The Expanse.
At least that's the official story...

Our insiders report something quite different. One word that Gal-Fed did not mention, but which is almost the only word you'll hear if you're privy to the conversations inside Gal-Fed today... aliens.

And these aliens were not on the losing side of the battle. Reports from Gal-Fed military who returned on the Venture were quite the opposite. "I don't know if our shields failed, if they were able to jam them or what - I do know that their weapons seemed to come straight through to our armour. Even on the first shot!" said one Ensign. Another stated that, "we barely got out of there alive, life support was down to 20% and a few more shots from those big ships on our engines is all it would have taken to leave us dead in the water. I still can't believe we made it out".

Wherever the truth lies, Gal-Fed assures us that their scientists have been able to take control of the wormhole and are even now building a secure intergalactic jumpgate framework around it to ensure that nothing can follow the Venture through into the Sphere. For now at least they are confident that what lives in The Expanse, stays in The Expanse. We will of course stay on top of things all day, all night, all week if we have to. Watch this space.
