The Alliance Bloc
In the early age of the Core a group of Scientists and academics realised that the Core was closing its boarders and foresaw the dark days ahead. Fearing the chaos that would ensue they set about creating facilities to continue their scientific research.

As the Sphere became wrenched by wars and lawlessness the facility shone as a beacon of research. As law became chaos many scientists fled to the facility drawn by the stability it seemed to offer. This success though also attracted those who thought they could use the facility for their own purposes.

In desperate expediency a leader emerged, Dr Akar. As a practical man and a powerful orator he persuaded most that they must use their science to protect themselves. Science was now only channeled into purposes that could be used to protect themselves. As the Sphere fell further into entropy Dr Akar found himself at the head of small but technically superior fighting force.

After proving their armaments against various raiders surrounding planets soon pledged themselves to Dr Akar for the protection they would receive. The Alliance was born. It was independent and able to protect itself. Do not think though that this was an altruistic paradise of scientific research. Dr Akar put in place an authoritarian government structure and many planets found themselves paying for the protection they received.

Over the years the Alliance has continued to base itself on an academic aristocracy. Science is held to be the answer to all problems but its practical application is the reason for it. Research has always been to ensure an advantage, deliver an end product not just prove theories.

Currently the Alliance bloc consists of 10 solars. Within this a number of research facilities produce items that many would be interested in. Unfortunately the Alliance has no reason to share and will fight to keep them their own. The Alliance leaders believe the Gal-Fed bloc to be technically bankrupt in both research and production but the superior number of Gal-Fed forces keeps both blocs in balance. One major advance though could tip the balance with the Alliance believing they could, and should, take control of Gal-Fed space. An uneasy neutral stance exists where neither side would currently be assured of victory in the event of war.

The Alliance has an affinity with, and may even have started, The Society of Genesis. The length of the lives of the elite certainly lends itself to the proposition that they have been artificially enhanced. It is even rumoured that Dr Akar is still
