I wanna be Senator

Player can be "bound" to location (star System) by settlement. But there is one player - two settlemnts rule. But I want to show that I like certain Systems, but I have 2 settlements already :(

Suggestion: Each system can give some titles - "Citizen", "Noble", "Senator", and/or something like that. Title give small discount in Docking fees and, maybe, in repair.

How to get title? Easy - Deliver Ashar/Wesbec/Pass to given system, Kill Enemies in that system, Search derelict in system, option - mine in System, Option - Kill AI in system... etc.

So player choose one/few systems, and try to score goals. 100 pass to given system - one "star". another 200 - second. etc. "Citizenship" is for 2 "stars", "Senator" title for 100.

I want to be clear - it is for fun, not reward :)

I think my title of "The Sexiest Man Alive!" may be a bit long for most portable devices

An interesting idea Piko - certainly for those that play CE on a full time basis so to speak. Would be interested to hear opinions and expanding this idea a little though before i dip my toe in the water with this.

ideas for actual game-play effect?
I will split in this in two parts.

Bragging Rights Only - Provide 3- 5 ranks of commerce that trigger how happy people are to see you arrive at the system. These trigger when the credits you have earned/delivered at the system passes certain barriers (1,000,000/5,000,000/25,000,000/125,000,000/625,000,000).
A page similar to the Planet Exploration page can be provided so a captain can see their own rankings.

Game Play effects (optional)
My first thought is that this could be treated like sub-faction that bends the normal faction rules. Except the governmental faction rules don't do much in CE so I don't see where it would go. If there were bonuses/penalties based on GalFed/Confed/Alliance, then the system faction would be added and can offset penalties or trigger higher levels of bonuses in those systems.

It could also represent pirate protection....well-informed pirates would stay clear of high profile targets or you get the occasional escort from the locals.

Am I the only one who's mind went straight to the star wars prequels? If this gets implemented we're going to have every sith lord politician coming out of the woodwork to sign up.

If you give points for mining, I'll be Emperor of about ten different systems in no time. :p

It's a neat idea, but I really don't think there should be much of an in-game benefit. More of just bragging rights and, like pika suggested, maybe a discount on docking fees (which is nice, but ultimately has no real affect on gameplay).

As such, I don't really see what else is to be added. Maybe a new icon to click that'll give a rundown of the top contributors to whatever planet / system you're at, as well as of course tracking your own progress... that's about it.

I suppose if you're intent on having something more tangible... a (small) % chance of a special random event triggering whenever you "undock" in a system you hold any significant title in. Not to sound too much like Rexx here, but it would be neat if these events were interactive in some way rather than single result screens like current events, but I realize that would take many times more work. Or, heck, even just a monthly report delivered via in-game mail detailing your contributions to various systems that month and a (very) small credit bonus.

To keep it somewhat more simple it would probably be best to limit the amount to which anyone could participate in it. For example, using pika's suggested "ranks", then a player could reach "Citizen" in as many systems as they wanted, but that had NO in-game benefit. However, they could only reach "Noble" in, say, ten systems and the player would have to choose if they wanted to accept Noble status in a system when they were eligible for it (a screen to accept / opt out in case you're interested in pursuing Noble status in a different system instead). And then a similar system for "Senator," where a player could only ever be a Senator in one or two systems, with a screen to accept / opt out of each system you're eligible for.

...haha, does that actually simplify things? :P Well, I was looking more at limiting long-term tracking than moment-to-moment decision making, but... whatever.
