Maybe there could be a "Re-arrange Rexx's Face" competition?
In this activity there would be a picture of Rexx as in one of those little puzzle things with the sliding plastic pieces.
Then every time we achieve a certain goal - perhaps delivering freight to one of his setts, we could make one move of one puzzle piece. Whoever makes the last move, thus completing His Silliness' Picture would be the winner.
Prize could be one week *without Rexx?
Sorry, just thinking out loud here...

I've read some very nice suggestions.

Here are some small challenges or just little stories to be used for a part of the big Coops Challange we had recently:

CE Fair: The opening of the annual CE fair with fireworks, will be held on "Planet X" on "Date".
In order to get enough revenues for our next fair, there need to be "Y" captains docked at this location at 16:00.
-Reward:
Server wide and/or personal bonus.

Joe, Sven and Boris are Going Mad:
Joe is desperately gathering resources to speed up the completion of his new Mansion,
Sven and Boris are contracted to craft and engineer the needed modules for this construction and the gear for his private guards.
For a week they'll buy your stocks and commodities at 50% higher rates.
-Optional rewards (if possible):
Server wide and/or personal bonus for completing the "wanted" list before date "X".
This can also include an amount of crafted modules, from EBK's to settlement housing for example.

Clean Sweep:
Because Galfed is too busy with controlling AI invasions, space lanes aren't as they should be anymore.
Many pirates just use their territories as a open sewer, littering them with anything they have no use for.
Also a growing number of Core Exiles, adopted this kind of behavior and some jumpgates even became a dangerious environment for any captain using them, not knowing how bad the situation will be when they exit the jumpgate at the desired destination.
A side effect of this Galactic Pollution is that many asteroids collided with the debris floating around and were blow out of their normal orbits.
So in a joined effort, FOM and Galfed descided to send a message to all captains, asking them to destroy "X" pirate vessels and salvage "Y" wrecks and collect "Z" ore.
_Reward:
Server wide and/or personal bonus

Super Nova :
It's still a mystery why the Core Exile Galaxies have no stars and why the outerspace temperature is 12 degrees Fahrenheit. Some scientists suggested that this was caused by a Mega Super Nova, that created a space-time bubble outside around the know Galaxies.
Some even indicated this could happen again and measurements should be taken to prepare for the worst, if a new Galaxy would be exiled into the bubble, that we explored sofar.
We may even be forced to shelter in bunkers for a while.
Wesbec and Ashar took this warning serious and descided to prepare some massive evacuation shelters with the new bunker technologie, that's now available.
-Reward:
Server wide and/or personal bonus for completing "x" contracts.

I have idea, not clear one, so a lot of "If" and "for example". (Update: In fact is was written as example, it was easier this way)

Let's have story behind a competition. Coops challenge was great fun, but it has no story :(.

Example Story - some Criminal for starters.

Chapter one: (In)Valuable piece of art was stolen, and one and only trace leads to Forge Galaxy. It probably was hidden in old vessel (aka derelict). Reward was issued for anyone who has clue.

Details for DEV:
1) Each search action in derelict in Forge has small chance for "small clue", like package in jenny missions. Small reward for each crate goues to player.
1a) Each search counts as "small clue".

2) For Each n small clues one big clue is published on forum. Players read clues and try to guess next part of story - Activity, area(s) (could be dozen of systems, not just one), details of activity, etc. Preferably with logic behind guess - it is not hard to paste all systems or even location in game.

- If next step is Combat, We must guess Ship affiliation and area of hunt (Affiliation - more flexilbility than Ship Type), could be package based
- Planetary exploration - Area, # of Artifacts, type of enemy to kill,
- Derelict exploration - Area, type of derelict,
- FOM - area,
- Salvage - area, area (engine, cockpit),
- Any other Activity could be.

But sometimes even best investigators are in DEAD END - Take Outlaw missions from/to certain place - make contacts with bad guys and get clues - see me "Cover Ops" suggestion.

PS. This suggestion is more RPG than most of game. I think DEVs should ask players somehow if we are interested in development in this way.

UPDATE - Galaxy Pulse Rescue

Post by Elkhorn »

No one knows where it came from or if it was natural, or some sort of alien weapon, but a massive pulse swept through the known universes leaving death, destruction and havoc in its wake. Every galaxy was affected and now needs massive amounts of food and emergency supplies for the recovery effort.

Resource collection:
Many types of resources are needed and collection points have been set up in the Sphere, Verec-Per, Furnace and the Expanse.
Credits and Experience Points will be awarded for delivery of each type of resource.

Basic Food items from raw grains (corn, oats, rice and wheat) and finished food items (cereal, bio-foods and ready meals) as well as wood and water.

Raw ore, plasteel, steel, copper ore and the like will be needed in huge quantities

Various gases will be required as well (Inert gas, Oxygen, Reactive gas, etc.).

Crafting:
Each galaxy will have crafting centers set up with special manufacturing facilities. Crafters will enter these facilities and build “Rescue Packets”. There will be three types of packets, Food, Materials and Gases. The schematic is built into the production center and will use resources available at the collection center only.
Credits and Experience Points will be awarded for each packet crafted

Delivery:
Packets will need to be delivered to the various rescue centers set up in each galaxy to receive them. Due to the nature of the packets, no other cargo can be carried with them and the maximum number of packets that can be carried is limited.
Credits and Experience Points will be awarded for each packet delivered.

Combat:
Have certain components/crates/whatever that are combat drops. These are returned to the assembly area.

I rather like the ideas that revolve around "galactic events" - maybe these events could even lead to CHANGES in the galaxies. E.g. if a "desaster relief" competition is successful (i.e. all stages are completed), some planets/systems could "grow", i.e. have more services added. Of course, if only some stages are completed, the opposite might happen...
With great power comes the great realization that you can have just as much fun simply annoying each other.

I think about GBM filling competition, we all can put GBM contracts with minimum qtty (10?) and players will race to complete as much as he can.
Only GBM contracts with minimum quantity are valid. I think it's not hard for the game to track them.
The winner is the highest GBM completion within a time frame.
So everyone can participated in 2 way, putting GBM contracts and or filling them (complete them).
It also useful for players to get some 'hard to obtain' resources even in a small quantity.
Don't underestimate our sniper just because his nose is long..
