Both FAQ and Wiki articles about Planetary exporation are slightly outdated. I'll try to make new versions, but it is wide area of game, many FAQ and WiKi pages. So my plan is to post here first, get some feedback, fix holes and mistakes, and later Publish all at once.

To start PLanetary Exploration you need few items:

Required Items

1) First of all, you need to be at least at level 15. Once you achieve that level, go to Ron Micah on Presidium in Palolon and do ALL of his missions. When you've completed the series, he will give you a Planetary Landing Module which will enable you to land on planets which have no docking rings.
2) You need an ECO-UPV buggy. It is crafted by fellow players and fits into Special slot of your Ship.
3) You need Space Suit. Basic one can be bought from Sven Barter store, more advanced are Engineered. Suits fit in your Personal Loadout slot.
4) You need also Exploration Deploy Packs (EDK). Exploration Packs are EXPENDABLE. These come in three grades according to the danger level of the planet being explored. Exploration packs are crafted items (in batches of 10), and you need one for each exploration, that is 50 one exploration day.
5) Some Exploration events can hurt you, so you need Medkits. Basic one can be bought from Sven Barter store, more advanced are Engineered. Medkits fit in your Personal Loadout slot. MedKits are EXPENDABLE, you can use one 10 times and you need replacement.
6) After some explorations you’ll need ECO Repair Packs (for example Planetary Vehicle Kit Atlas). During Exploration there are few events, which damage your Buggy. To fix it you need repair kits. Beware, If durability of your ECO falls to zero you’ll LOST your BUGGY!


Optional Items,
7) Oxygen bottles – Highly recommended. All actions but riding buggy require one Unit of Oxygen. Small Bottle s can be bought from Sven Barter store, larger are crafted. You’ll find some during Exploration too.
8) Archeology Tools – You need set of three kind of tools to retrieve Archeology treasures, which can be traded in Explorers League Transfer store, and Alien Artifacts.
9) Weapon, Armor and Ammo – For detailed description see Forums (link to primer and/or other FAQ artiles)
10) Seraphim Pod – By default you can do only 50 explorations in a 24 hour period. Equipped Seraphim Pod increase this number. Seraphim 4 is the best engineered pod (+50 explorations per day), CE store XXL is the Best (+80 exploration per day). NOTE: you cannot Unequip Seraphim Pod if you do any explorion today (ticker resets 4.00 pm Game Time)
11) Exploration Mechs – EXPANSE ONLY!
12) Many Various CE store Items.

Last, but not least, you need choose your planet carefully.
On the Top Left tab (called ‘Game Info’) select 'Galactic Exploration'. This will give you a list of all the planets currently being explored, how much of each planet has been explored so far and the name of the chief explorer . For Starters, only important Thing is ‘danger level’, as it determine choice of EBK (Exploration Deploy Kit). Basics are for planets with level 1 through 6, Generics are for planets with level 7 through 12 and Advanced are for planets with level 13 through 20. Later, if you like Exploring, you may want to become Chief Explorer, which gives you a million credits and your name on the news ticker! Both Chief Explorer and Last Explorer gets reward if player place Settlement on that planet.
