Ashar & Wesbec

Post by Coops on Wed Feb 20, 2008 4:15 am

This was taken from a post by Lasblast but I figured it deserved to be pulled out and used as a general guide to the Ashar / Wesbec issues that players often get confused over.

All of the cargo haulers will entrust you with bigger cargoes as your faction XP rises. This is across the board, regardless of what is paid (Union will offer you more valuable passenger runs if you increase their faction XP, but they don't do cargo, they do passengers).

However, pay rates do vary by hauler and also according to a small random variation:

Ashar - They pay premium prices for very small runs (around 20 and less), kind of like a courier service, and their bigger runs offer a bit less as you are shipping sensible sizes in bulk. Therefore, the best way to use Ashar is to take a lot of very small cargoes. There often aren't enough suitable ones, so you'll often carry their larger ones as well. A big advantage at Ashar is that new players can get their premium runs right away; faction XP is less important to them.

Wesbec - They pay poorly for small (by their measure, i.e. 80-odd) runs, but the pay increases per unit as you do bigger runs. If you do their 250-odd runs, they are very profitable indeed! The snag here is that in order to access these runs, you need a lot of faction XP, so Wesbec is a case of investing time and effort early on to get big pay-offs later - which is ideal for those who make hauling their primary activity.

Outlaw - Obviously you have to be a pirate (i.e. have positive pirate faction rating) to use Outlaw, in which case they are the only people you can haul for. They pay far more randomly, as their work is ad-hoc, so pretty much just hunt through their lists for the best deals.

Finding Missions - When entering a Trade Office, be it Ashar, Wesbec, or Outlaw, you will see a list of 20 randomly generated trade missions. They are filtered based on your faction XP only, so you must be careful as to avoid picking missions that won
