Well, I have 20 armour and 20 weapon packs lying around but neither chassis nor AIs... So I can't really do much right now.

Since getting mech parts isn't really hard, I wouldn't worry about losing mechs. I usually just put together mechs more or less randomly and drop them into the arena - either they shoot something or they get shot. Of course, I only rarely buy any mech parts, either (only if I e.g. need certain parts...

Maybe only certain items could be "repairable", e.g. a "cracked railgun" could be repaired, but a "dented food container" could only be broken down into (some) useable resources.

The whole passenger system runs on equipping your ship with a passenger module/shadowsword frame+pods. A "passenger ship" would break this system, so I don't see how that could work.

Which means ferrying passengers one day might just require more effort on our part. For example, if there were only 5-10 passengers at any given location, completely filling a large cabin would likely require quite a bit more flying around, thus burning more fuel/taking more time. More time and fuel...
