Interview With a Pirate Captain

Hello fellow spacefarers!
It’s Gabby Newsome, with the news you can use.

A little something different today as we are in an undisclosed location speaking with Pirate Captain Sean O’Connor.

G: Captain, please introduce yourself.

S: Well, I’m Captain Sean O’Connor of Liam’s Titans.

G: Don’t be worried, Captain. The authorities aren’t going to jump out and arrest you.
You are perfectly safe here.

How long have you been a member of that notorious Pirate Clan?

S: Pirate clan.That’s what the authorities call us.

We are people, men, women, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters.
They call us Pirates because we refuse to conform.

G: You prey on innocent vessels. Don’t you?

S: What choice do we have? It’s not like we can dock at San Gallen and conduct business! Gal Fed, ConFed and the Alliance; they made us what we are today!

They are no better than the authorities in the Core that you all supposedly came here to escape!

G: They provide structure.

S: Structure? Don’t you mean control? Do you ever wonder why you don’t see pirates represented in court? Because people would hear the truth! It’s easy to control the populace, when you control the narrative!

And all the well meaning sheep follow along, chasing bounties, because the authorities won’t face the consequences of their own actions.
They created us, they fear us, and they use you to exact their judgment!

G: They are charged with protecting the citizens of the Sphere!

S: They would do well to concentrate on the A.I. threat and leave us alone; so that they can return to the beloved Core. The prodigal children, returning home as saviors!

G: What do you mean by that?

S: We are not unthinking brutes and thugs. We have doctors, lawyers and scientists. Gal Fed is not the only one who intercepted A.I. communications, or have studied their technology. If you plan on returning to the Core, you will need all the help you can get!

G: Are you volunteering?

S: We are not at war with you; you are at war with us!

Do the math, how many contracts have been put out for pirate kills? How many raid parties have attacked our bases? How many of us are out there? Think about it!

If we wanted a war with you, you would know it!

G: So, what do you want?

S: We want what everyone else wants! We want to live in peace, conduct business, explore planets, build colonies where we can have actual homes!

But we fear, as long as the current power structure exists, that will never become a reality.
