Adv refining and refining skill

Has anyone out there determined if refining skill has a purpose other than converting ore to refined ore?

Is there any reason to keep your refining skill if you convert over to ADV drones and advanced refining and no longer use the refined ore conversion?

But IP short greenhors ure rev9 and need only 351 ... If Use only Adv drones, ofc

to equip the Rev 9 - 745 device against 490 for the rev 6 - the differenece translates to 238 refinery skills - so 14250 IPs more available with the veteran solution.
