I highly recommend the buddies. My combat buddy has found some excellent loot - including the occasional very rare resource. My salvage buddy has too. The things they find are often unrelated to the activity. For example, my salvage buddy found a crate of novastone gas once.
hubby has the mining buddy. He gets items that you might find in combat. I think they are designed to give access to loot you normally could not find when fighting, salvaging, or mining.
Nice investment for those of us who are.... rather fond of acquisitions.
