I suspect the AI is learning from their mistakes. Also just aheads up but simply attacking the planets won't stop the AI spreading further. Players need to concentrate on shutting down the AI in space. This will close of their avenues to the space lanes in our Galaxies.

Although of course in the near future you may be able to take the battle directly to THEM on the OTHERSIDE of the Nebula, let's see what happens.
